What We Cover
1. Genomics
We dive deep into the core of genomics, exploring its principles, techniques, and the latest technological advancements. From DNA sequencing to gene editing, we cover a range of topics highlighting the capabilities and potential of genomic research.
2. Evolutionary Biology
Understanding the evolutionary history of life is a significant part of our content. We discuss how genomics sheds light on the evolutionary processes that have shaped the diversity of life on Earth. Topics like phylogenetics, molecular evolution, and evolutionary genomics are regularly explored to understand how species have evolved and adapted over time.
3. Comparative Genomics
A key focus of our blog is comparative genomics, where we discuss studies that compare the genomes of different species to understand their evolutionary relationships, functional biology, and genetic diversity. We delve into case studies and research findings revealing the genetic diversity among various organisms.
4. Genomic Applications in Medicine and Agriculture
We also explore how genomics is revolutionizing medicine and agriculture. Personalized medicine, genetic therapies, crop improvement, and livestock breeding are some areas where genomic science is making a significant impact.
5. Important Current Events
In 2024, we will also adventure into a new topic — coverage of major events that impact science. In this way, the Genomely blog will also have a “newsy” tinge to it. Genomely plans on simply covering what’s happening and does not play on interjecting their own opinion.
Meet the Author: Jacob L. Steenwyk
I have a passion for genomics and received my Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Vanderbilt University, focusing on bioinformatics and evolutionary genomics. At the time of writing, I’m a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Awardee of the Life Sciences Research Foundation. I aim to combine scientific rigor with an engaging writing style to make complex concepts accessible to all readers.
